Anyone that knows us can attest to our unabashed love of heritage buildings, vintage objects, and other treasures from years gone by. So when, Mallory suggested we use her family’s homestead property complete with the original house built by her great-great Grandfather you can imagine how excited we were. It is so rare to find homesteads still owned by the original family and we loved the idea of using something so meaningful and significant for their engagement photoshoot.
Since this property doesn’t have an exact address, we met them on the side of a road in an approximate location and started the walk up the pasture to get to the homestead. We were immediately blown away by the natural rustic beauty of it all. High up on a hill sits the original house nestled in front of a pristine expansive forest and overlooking pastoral rolling hills and lakes below. We felt like we were in the Swiss countryside with an occasional cow and green fields that seem to go on forever.
Although the buildings have seen better years, we were immediately charmed by their rustic patina. If those buildings could talk, we’d love to sit there all day listening to stories of old. Mallory and Dave made it out from their homebase in Quesnel, BC for the photoshoot and we had such a great time with them exploring the property and getting to know them as a couple. We’re super excited to photograph their wedding this September in Kelowna and we even get to come back to the homestead on their wedding day for some more photos!!!
One of our favourite moments of the shoot: When a weathered antique spoon was found outside. We joked around that her great-great Grandfather could have ate from it.
