Sarah & Jamie - to be married July 23, 2011

The day of the engagement shoot turned out to be amazingly sunny and warm, welcoming this Calgary couple to the beautiful Okanagan.  Sarah & Jamie are such a friendly and gorgeous couple, with a wicked sense of style that reminded my wife, Katherine, of a much edgier and cooler version of Barbie and Ken.  We started the shoot out in Kelowna's historic downtown, then progressed to rustic train tracks, and ended the shoot on the soft sands of Lake Okanagan.  Sarah & Jamie rocked this photoshoot, (quite literally - with a vintage acoustic guitar) and infused their own fun ideas as we went along (ahem...back alley cardboard tube wars - see slideshow!).  I look forward to photographing this stunning couple and meeting their 10 month old baby boy, Greyson, at their upcoming wedding at Sparkling Hill!

Joanne & Chris - to be married July 2, 2011

What a fun couple! We utilized a range of landscapes for this couple’s engagement session – orchards, heritage buildings, and beaches. Joanne & Chris were super playful and varied it up a lot with their three awesome clothing changes (yay, suspenders!). As we started, the light was luminous in the orchards, then progressed to a stunning golden sunset, ending with a beautiful soft hue by the lake at dusk. Ahh…perfect! We had such a great time at this upbeat engagement session and look forward to photographing this wonderful couple at their upcoming wedding!

Erin & Dave - married May 28, 2011

What stunning eyes and classic beauty!  I first met with Erin in Vancouver back in December and was so excited to capture her elegant wedding at Summerhill Winery.  The entire day went so beautifully and my wife Katherine shot an amazing collection of details and candids throughout the wedding.  A favourite moment was when Jim Harnden, the officiant, urged on the little flower girl, Madison, to toss flower petals on the bride and groom while they were signing the register.  Also, Dave showed his prowess by sabering off the tops of two champagne bottles in a toast after the ceremony.  Enjoy all of these moments and more in the slideshow below. Congratulations to Erin & Dave, may your love be forever true!

Jen & Don - to be married October 1, 2011

This Calgary couple made a huge effort in planning an awesome engagement session by arranging a beautiful vintage car for the shoot. Together, with big blue balloons and dramatic locations, this shoot was super fun and cohesively melded into some amazing images. Gotta love props! So, we started out in a scrap yard (yes, you read correctly) and progressed to an old heritage orchard. Along the way, Jen & Don kept me inspired by their great personal style and outgoing nature. Looking forward to shooting your wedding in the Fall!

Chelsea & Steve - to be married June 18, 2011

I unabashedly love dogs, so when Chelsea & Steve decided to bring their five (yes, five!) Chihuahua dogs with them from Calgary, I was over the moon excited. Before I got to meet the happy pups, we headed over to an apple orchard to capture their love amidst the last blooms of Spring. Once we got to Knox Mountain Park, we let the dogs run wild! I completely feel in love with the little Chihuahua's, as their bodies darted along the pathways and climbed over the couple. Chelsea & Steve - we had a super fun time with you both and look forward to shooting your upcoming wedding!

Leanne & Adam - wedded in the first blooms of spring

My first wedding since I got back from France and I was freshly inspired!  Leanne & Adam's request to plan a first look session before the ceremony allowed ample time for creative portraits and a romantic interlude before the formal ceremony.  In the morning at the salon, everyone was awed at Leanne's beautiful transformation to full glamour with lush, soft curls and bold red lips.  Leanne accentuated her cute vintage style with retro royal blue heels and a handmade flower from Etsy.com for her hair.  In fact, the whole wedding day was accented with hints of Tiffany blue from the paper lanterns in the reception to their electric blue martini custom blended by the happy couple themselves (yum!).  A beautiful May day made more beautiful by the love Leanne and Adam shared with those closest to them.

Tracey & Richard -  to be married August 19, 2011.

Tracey and Richard's engagement shoot started in the beautiful glow of the early evening in the downtown arts district of Kelowna, moved to the wharf at Manteo Resort for sunset, and ended with the dramatic tones of the indigo blue night sky in the graffiti-decorated back alleys of Kelowna's downtown core.  This couple is wickedly passionate and even a bit racy when the light gets low.  Their stylish choice of clothing and edgy personal style made the shoot feel straight out of Vanity Fair.  Tracey rocked her sequin covered stilettos and switched to knee-high leather boots for the second half of the shoot.  Richard put on his superhero persona with his jet blue eyes and steely veneer, while Tracey let loose and used joyous personality and stunning beauty to draw the emotion out of Richard, making the shoot intimate and real.

Zoe - a model's portfolio shoot

This shoot was a blast.  From a high-key studio to outdoor night shooting, to an awesome antique shop location; everything just rocked!  Zoe's mother; who by the way looks more like her sister, styled and assisted through the shoot.  I am so excited to finally share these images as the shoot was from a few months ago and just got to posting it on the blog.

Angela & Chris - a winter fairytale wedding

Days before the wedding, Kelowna experienced a sudden and hefty amount of snow, transforming the barren landscape into a winter wonderland again.  The snow was still pristine on the day of Angela and Chris' wedding, even though the temperatures came up to 8°C.  As I write this, the snow is all gone again and I look back thinking about how perfect this wedding unfolded.  The day started as Angela and the Girls' got ready at the Hotel Eldorado.  Right before the ceremony, they were met by an old-fashioned horse and buggy which whisked them away to the outdoor ceremony location at Summerhill Pyramid Winery.  After a short and sweet ceremony (it is winter by the way), Angela's brother led a procession playing acoustic guitar, towards the pyramid.  In the fashion of celebration, initiated by Napoleon years ago, Chris and Angela sabered off the tops of Cipes Brut Sparkling Wine with a sword.  Entertaining and impressive!  As the wine flowed, the guests filed into the pyramid for a champagne toast, appetizers, and live music.  As the guests carried on the celebration, we whisked the newly married couple away and captured some amazing shots through till dusk before they entered their reception.  I feel truly honoured to have been be a part of this winter fairytale wedding and wish Angela & Chris many more winters together.

Angela & Chris -  to be married February 12, 2011

Days before Christmas we bundled up and met Angela and Chris at her family's apple orchard in East Kelowna.  The fresh snow fall softened and beautified the landscape, creating a perfect atmosphere for some romantic engagement photos.  Even though the day was cold, Angela and Chris, being the outdoor enthusiasts they are, embraced it with a full on snow fight.  Their adorable chocolate lab, Juno, came out to play, as well as the resident farm horse.  A winter shoot is not complete without mulled wine, so once the cold really set in, we headed to an outdoor fire, letting them warm up from the inside out.  As their winter wedding approaches, we look forward to producing a photographic collection that will capture Angela & Chris's contagious joy and optimism.
